Date: 1.8-1.5 million years ago
Location: Swartkrans, South Africa
Species: Paranthropus robustus
Discovered by: Robert Broom
Date of Discovery: 1948
Details: There has been much controversy over SK 847. SK 847 is actually a composite skull reassembled from 3 separate pieces. Further skepticism stems from Broom's habit of carrying around fossils for days before recording the fossil's location and context. As a result, SK 847 can only be dated with questionable accuracy. Academics have attributed this composite skull to at least 5 different hominin taxa at one time or another. |
